Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is the backbone of any police operation and therefore comprises the largest number of personnel. Patrol Officers provide a multitude of services from responding to emergency calls to meeting with citizen groups. The Fairbank Police Department's Patrol Division is made up of five patrolmen. Officers assigned to the patrol division can expect to work various shifts.


 

Officer Rick Deitrick

Officer Deitrick began his law enforcement career in 1986 as a Deputy Sheriff for Jefferson County, Colorado. He was employed by the Gordon, Nebraska Police Department from 1988 until 1993, where he achieved the rank of Corporal. Officer Deitrick was also assigned to investigations. In 1993 he was assigned to Chief of Police for the Mapleton Police Department in Mapleton, Iowa. From 1994 until September 1996 he was employed by the Logan Police Department. In September of 1996 he became Chief of Police in Jesup, Iowa. Along with being the Chief in Jesup, he joined the Fairbank Police Department in October of 2001 and serves in a part-time capacity. Officer Deitrick lives in Jesup with his wife and three children. He has achieved an AA in Bible Theology and has attended and graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

Officer Mike Athey

Officer Athey began his law enforcement career in 1984 as a Correctional Officer with the Iowa Department of Corrections. In 1986, he began employment with the Iowa Department of Transportation and attended and graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Officer Athey was then promoted to the rank of Investigator with the Department of Transportation in 1989, where he currently investigates motor vehicle fraud. He joined the Fairbank Police Department in early 2003 as a part-time patrolman. Officer Athey lives in rural Jesup with his wife and two children. In his free time, he enjoys hunting and fishing, as well as playing golf.

Officer Cory Hartmann

Officer Hartmann began his law enforcement career in 2004 when he was hired as a reserve police officer with the Fairbank Police Department and currently serves as a part-time officer. He has an Associates Degree in Police Science that he earned from Hawkeye Community College and has attended and graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

Officer Eric Barker

Officer Barker began his law enforcement career in 2001 as a reserve officer for the Clarence Police Department. He was hired as a reserve officer with the Fairbank Police Department in the fall of 2007. Officer Barker attended and graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 2002 and has taken several courses including drug interdiction, investigations, and is a Use of Force and Firearms Instructor. Officer Barker left the Monticello Police Department in 2007 and is currently employed at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife and son as well as fishing.
